Your Wealth Creation Blueprint

An Order of Work: Protect, Capture EPF, Run One Core SIP, Then Consider Satellites

A blueprint is an order of work, not a new product. If the earlier series have felt like separate rooms, this article is the corridor. Complete each line before decorating the next. Households that skip lines do not fail because they lacked information. They fail because the order was inverted.

"If the page is longer than one sitting can explain to a spouse, it is no longer a blueprint. It is a catalogue.

The Order

  1. Protect. Emergency fund, health insurance, term insurance, and the rest of the first pillar. Nominees current.
  2. Capture what the employer already offers. EPF at a genuine 12 per cent of basic where that choice exists. Do not volunteer for the ₹1,800 floor without understanding the smaller deposit that follows.
  3. Add a simple long-term engine. One diversified equity or index fund SIP for dates that are seven to ten years or further away. PPF or NPS only where they have a clear role beside EPF, not as decoration.
  4. Match near dates to debt-like holdings. Education in five years does not sit in a small-cap fund.
  5. Optional satellites. Individual shares only after the core is running. Investment property only after cash, cover and the SIP survive the down payment. Gold only after jewellery is counted.
  6. Review once a year. Raise SIPs with income. Rebalance with new money first.

What the One Page Contains

Line Write this down
GoalsPurpose, year needed, amount in today’s rupees
ProtectionCover amounts, insurer, due dates
Core holdingsEPF, PPF/NPS if any, one or two funds, cash location
SatellitesShares, extra property, gold — or the word “none”
PeopleSpouse access, advisor, nominees

“None” on the satellite line is a complete answer. Empty space is allowed. Filling space is not a requirement of adulthood.

Did You Know?

The blueprint does not need to name ten schemes. It needs to name every purpose. Unnamed purposes are how surprise withdrawals appear.

A Real Household Story

The Menon household in Kottayam reduced a twelve-folio folder to one page: cover notes, UAN, two SIPs, a PPF number, and “no second flat.” They put the page in a shared drive and gave a copy to the planner they already used. When a thematic fund was offered the following winter, they asked which line on the page it would occupy. It occupied none. They did not buy it.

MoneyChanakya Insight

A blueprint is a filter. Anything that cannot claim a line does not enter the house.

Common Mistake

Rewriting the blueprint every time a ranking table is published. The page changes when a goal or an income changes.

Key Takeaways

  • Protection, employer savings, one core SIP, then optional satellites.
  • Write purposes, not a shopping list.
  • The last article turns this page into thirty days of tasks.
